In June 2017, The Mash ended its tenure as the Chicago Tribune’s teen newspaper and website. For nine years, the program fostered a community of young journalists in Chicago, and we are proud and grateful to be the place so many teens started their journey in this industry.

Over the course of nearly a decade, The Mash published stories on issues that really mattered to teens: birth control, transgender rights, feminism, the legalization of marijuana, white privilege, and the evolution of social media, to name a few. Mash writers heard from and were mentored by some of the most illustrious journalists at the Chicago Tribune. Students interviewed celebrities, worked in the newsroom on election night, and covered athletic events. The Mash has much to be proud of, and we hope anyone who ever contributed to The Mash or even read one of its articles shares in that feeling.
