It’s that time of year again. The school year has barely begun, and already, many students are finding themselves buried beneath piles of textbooks, lost in seas of handouts and homework.
The first few weeks of school can be rough on anyone. Freshmen can stress over learning the ropes of a new school. Juniors may lose sleep over the ever-impending ACT, and seniors start preparing themselves for that little thing called life after high school.
But what about sophomores?
They’re no longer the babies of the school, but they’re still not upperclassmen. Sophomores tend to get lost in the crowd.
For all you sophomores, who are feeling neglected, we’ve got you covered. With these survival tips, sophomore year is sure to be one to remember.
Tip 1: Don’t get too arrogant
Even though it’s probably a relief to no longer be the babies on campus, sophomores sometimes take this a little too far. Remember, you are still underclassmen, which means you still have to pay your dues.
Tip 2: Get involved
Almost everyone’s a little shy during their freshman year, so sophomore year is the time to take charge and get involved. Try out for sports, audition for plays and join clubs you may have been too afraid to consider freshman year.
Tip 3: Branch out
It’s understandable to stay in your comfort zone freshman year, since being in a new school is hard enough. But you’re sophomores now, so take advantage of that. Take classes that sound fun to you, even if your friends aren’t taking them.
Tip 4: Show school spirit
Put on your school colors and show some spirit! Sophomore year is a great time to really show off your school pride. Dress up with your friends and go to pep rallies to cheer on your team.
Tip 5: Just dance
Freshmen can be timid when it comes to homecoming and other school dances, so take this opportunity to go all out. By now, you may know more about the whole formal dance procedure, so you should feel more comfortable going.
Tip 6: Plan ahead
Yes, even though it does seem crazy to start planning for college when you’re only 15 or 16, the sad truth is ... you have to. Sophomore year is a good time to get a head start on this. Start thinking about what careers interest you, and research a few schools that sound good.
Tip 7: Have fun
Sophomore year can really be fun and exciting. Embrace this year and have fun as you learn to drive and celebrate your Sweet 16. Even though senior year is down the road, Graduation Day comes a lot faster then you think. Cherish these moments while you can.
