Max Schneider

Sophomore, Lane Tech
Sport: Wrestling

Why he’s got game:
Schneider, competing at 145 pounds, won his second Public League individual title in as many years in dominant fashion on Saturday. He pinned all three of his opponents in less than four minutes combined. Schneider defeated Harlan’s Tyanthony Bain in 56 seconds in the final. Last year was Schneider’s first year wrestling, and he ended his 41-4 freshman campaign as the Class 3A state runner-up at 135 pounds. He ran his record this year to 30-0 after the city tournament and also has individual tournament wins at Wheeling, Glenbrook South and Lincoln.

What do you hope to be doing in five years?
“I would like to be in the middle of a career at a Division I wrestling program. I’m only a sophomore, but a few colleges have invited me to camps to get a feel for what I can do.”

How did you get your start in wrestling?
“At the beginning of my freshman year, I went up to the coach (Mark Miedona) and said that I wanted to join the team. I had a couple of people who helped me train in judo who said they thought I’d be a good wrestler. I was on frosh-soph for, like, two days, then got moved up to varsity.”

What would your first big purchase be as a pro?
“I’d buy my mom (Adelina) a big house. It would be a nice, big house downtown near the beach.”

What’s the hardest part about balancing sports and school work?
“I have to really use my time management skills to get all of my homework done and still be at practice for three hours a day.”
