Girls at my school have been talking feverishly about prom dresses and the works, while I have just been sitting back, nodding in agreement and thinking more about my next article than what color my prom dress will be.
I am not anti-prom or anything, but I honestly don’t care yet. I would be lying if I said I constantly think about my prom night and how fun it will be. I’m sure it will be fun, but I am not going to spend four months prepping for one night.
I know that prom is important, but I don’t want to spend a fortune for one night. I'm going to buy a nice dress and I'll do my hair, but I don’t think I’m going to buy an elaborate dress that will end up being a burden when it comes time for dancing. Prom should be a time to remember and to spend time with your friends for one of the last times before graduation. It should not consume your thoughts and leave you penniless.
Think about it. When you look back ten years from now, are you going to remember your prom first--or the wonderful memories you shared with friends at your lunch table in school?
Right now, my thoughts are more consumed with college preparation and the dreaded IB exams that all students in the International Baccalaureate program have to complete before they graduate. Prom night will come and the time will also come to prepare. For now, I will just continue to nod in agreement.
