My teacher tells us to make boxes for Valentine’s Day with a little opening at the top. I mold the construction paper to resemble a box. Mine looks deformed, but I'm excited to review the contents after Valentine’s Day.
Second grade
I go shopping with my mom at Walgreens to pick out the perfect Valentine’s Day cards. I want Cinderella cards or even Barbie ones. I pick both. My mom helps me write the names of my classmates on the cards at home later that day.
Fourth grade
I receive my first love note during lunch on Valentine’s Day. It's scribbled on a napkin.
Seventh grade
My teacher gives me a box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day. All the “popular” girls receive teddy bears from the “cute” guys in class. I'm feeling a little sad, but Valentine’s Day is luckily only one day long.
Freshman year
I walk home that day and I pass a school on my way home. It is a procession of lifesize teddy bears and huge balloons as class ended for the day. I smile and continue walking. It's a good day.
Junior year
He gives me a teddy bear and a chocolate box. I still keep teddy on my bed at night.
Senior year
Surprise.
