The scoop from inside Team Jacob

At 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, “The Twilight Saga” unleashed its third movie, “Eclipse.” It’s no surprise that tons of vampire and werewolf fans lined up for hours to see how “Eclipse” compared to the book and past movies.

Sure, “Twilight” is responsible the recent vampire mania in pop culture—but without the werewolves in La Push, Bella Swan wouldn’t be alive.

TheMash sat down this week with two actors in “Eclipse” who are firmly in the werewolves’ camp. Booboo Stewart plays Seth Clearwater, a Quileute werewolf and friend of Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black. Tinsel Korey plays Emily Young, the fiancée of werewolf Sam Uley, who takes care of the werewolves by looking after them and most of all—feeding them.

Here what they had to say about being part of Team Jacob’s inner circle.

How did you react when you found out you were going to be in "The Twilight Saga"?

Booboo Stewart: My reaction was, “Whoa.”

Tinsel Korey: It was amazing. I didn’t know what was to be expected, but it’s been a whirlwind of a ride for sure.

How did you prepare to portray your characters?

BS: I really had to go to the gym, and I read all of the books.

TK: For me, actually before “Eclipse” was shot, I went down to … where Emily is from. I taught acting to the kids and just spent time with the community just to see where our characters sort of come from. And for me, I have grown so much as a person from playing Emily, and her beauty comes form the inside, so it has given me a lot of strength as I grow as a female.

How do you think character of Emily changes from the last film to this one? How did you deal with that?

TK: I think the main change is not in her character but film-wise. With the presence of Leah, there is that awkwardness where Leah can hear what Sam is thinking about Emily and all those romantic thoughts. The rest of the wolf pack gets to hear it too so you definitely feel that presence and that gaze from Leah when I am with Sam. So that was a little different from before when it was just the guys and us. That energy was definitely more present.

From your success, what advice would you give teenagers looking to go into acting?

BS: Just really try hard and find what you want to do, and if you have your mind set on it then just do it, you know what I mean? You just really have to try hard and never give up, and it will all work out for the right reasons. You can’t let it get to you like “oh, you didn’t get that part” and be really upset. It will all work out.

TK: I actually have blogs on my Web site, tinseltorey.com, and it goes from acting 101 to 301 on how to get an agent, what to do for your headshots, your first day on set. I laid it out because I do have a lot of young girls and guys coming up to me and they’re like “how do I get into it?” I have MySpace, so if they write me any questions, I’ll try to answer them.

Booboo, you have a background in karate and wrestling. Can you elaborate on how you got into it?

BS: My dad was a wrestler. Actually he used to train a lot of the guys, so I used to go there and kind of help train. My dad was doing karate, and I started when I was three years old. The first demo I ever did, I was four, and everyone started clapping. And I was scared so I sat down and I started crying, like I had no idea what they were doing. Yeah, I just love it, it’s really fun.

I understand that you’re a musician. Can you tell us about your music career?

TK: I think it’s all over the place—Germany and Hungary—like I get fan mail, and it’s just interesting to see where your music goes. I’m just trying to get a CD and people want me to tour. At the end of the show, I’m sure when you see a show you like, you’re like “Oh, where can I get that music?” so I do showcases and stuff like that just so I can keep performing. But I just did the “Twilight” convention that was in Los Angeles. I was lucky to have Justin Gaston there, who’s from a show called “If I Can Dream.” He played with me on stage. … I met some great musicians down in L.A., and I think it’s just about that energy and meeting with different musicians and collaborating to make your music go forward.

You’ve been on two totally different shows like “CSI: Miami” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” Which character was more difficult to play? Which was your favorite?

BS: “CSI Miami” was so much fun. It was actually the first time they had a guest star, and it was like the story revolved around a kid. That was definitely the harder one because I was like crying, and it was so much fun. I had a great time working with director and doing a TV spot was just really awesome. I got to do a really serious project. I got to do a lot of action, and it was fun.

What non-“Twilight” projects are you both working on?

TK: I have a movie called “Stained” that just came out of a film festival, so I am excited about that. It’s going to go into distribution and to more festivals. Then there’s a Canadian release so we are just waiting to see about the U.S. theatrical release right now.

BS: I have a movie called “Smitty” directed by David Mickey Evans, he directed the original “Sandlot” so it was really fun working with him. And you can go on iTunes and check out “Rainy Day.” Hopefully a big project will be coming out soon.

Before you got into acting, did you have any unglamorous jobs?

TK: He worked in a shoe factory.

BS: (laughs) Yeah, I worked in a shoe factory. I made shoes with my hands and worked long hours.

TK: I have worked in lots of customer service jobs and stuff I didn’t want to do. I got to the point of doing those crappy jobs where I was like life is too short to be unhappy, and I see these people all the time, and they are doing their jobs and they are limited by that and where they see themselves at and they are miserable in life. I was like, I’d rather starve than work another day like that. And since that point, since I set that goal, I’ve worked as an actor.

BS: Thank God you didn’t have to starve.

Do you have any personal goals-besides acting? Anything else you want to try out?

BS: The music, definitely. I think music and stuff like that.

TK: I use a lot of celebrity to talk about social issues an I am a really political person so I understand that I have a voice—

BS: —she can be president one day.

TK: (laughs) So I use that as a platform to talk about things going on in society because when you have a platform like this, I think that you should use it in a positive light. So there’s a lot of that. Also, I work with a lot of different foundations. Boo Boo and I were actually raising money for (charity) yesterday. We were signing autographs—that’s what we can offer and it bought a lot of monetary to that foundation.

BS: We had a good time meeting the fans too, so it helps them and helps the charity.

So, Team Edward or Team Jacob?

BS: I don’t know. Well my mom is president of Team Seth. And I got a Team Seth T-shirt today.

TK: I actually say Team Sam because I am faithful to my man.

What’s the best part of working with the “Twilight “cast?

TK: I think it’s that we’re like family. We just get along and there are no egos. There’s some stuff you get on and people have attitudes, and I didn’t really find anybody on set who has an attitude and I think we’re all very humble and appreciative of what we have, you know? As fast as something can be given to you, it’s taken away just as fast if you don’t appreciate it.

BS: I feel exactly the same.
