DO become immersed in a great movie. DON'T waste your time and money on a lousy one. Here are some tips to help you accomplish both for the rest of July.

“SALT”: Opens July 23
Angelina Jolie plays CIA agent Evelyn Salt - skilled, disciplined and sworn to stay loyal to her country. That is, until she is accused of being a Russian spy and needs to use her skills to avoid capture. To sum up: spy girl loses all credibility and goes on the run to prove her innocence. Sounds like a reused plot line to me! Still, judging from her past roles in action films, Jolie has the potential to pull this movie into the spotlight. Who is Salt? Let’s hope the end doesn’t leave us hanging…

”Ramona and Beezus”:Opens July 23
Remember all those Beverly Cleary books about tomboy Ramona Quimby and her awkward older sister Beatrice (Beezus)? Yeah, well this is not that movie. The little girl readers fell in love with in Cleary’s books was a tomboy, always playing in the dirt in her overalls and definitely not the dress-and-glitter-wearing “princess” this movie makes her out to be. And it’s hard for me to picture Selena Gomez as self-conscious Beezus. I’m a stickler when it comes to accurately portraying a book when it’s made into a movie, and this time it’s off the mark. Still, there’s no doubt this will be a heartwarming movie, even if it’s not exactly like the stories you remember.

"Dinner for Schmucks": Opens July 30
This movie is going to be hilarious. Even the trailer alone is hilarious. And with Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis, how could it not be? Stemming from the 1998 French comedy “Le Diner Des Cons,” the 2010 film has done well at remaining fresh and family-friendly as opposed to its more rogue original.

"Charlie St. Cloud": Opens July30
Zac Efron is Charlie St. Cloud, a young man whose whole world crashes down around him when his younger brother, Sam, dies in a car accident. However, Charlie is still able to see Sam and meets him every night to talk and play catch. Things get complicated when Charlie has to choose between his brother and a new girl in his life. Now, overly sappy or a true tear-jerker? I guess we’ll see next Saturday…

"Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore": Opens July 30
Kitty Galore, former agent for the cat’s spy organization MEOWS, has gone rogue and plans to take over both the canine and feline world. For the first time, these enemy groups must work together to save their species. Could be a cute film. One thing’s for sure: if you’re a dog person, you’ll like this movie all the more. I always knew cats were the bad guys!
